What is a whistleblower?
A whistleblower is usually an employee or former employee who reports violations to people or agencies outside of the workplace who have the power to change the situation. Common types of misconduct that result in whistleblowing include law violations, threats to public health or interest, corruption, and health and safety violations. A famous whistleblower was Jeffrey Wigand, who exposed the Big Tobacco scandal.
